Other areas

I am still rearranging the material and I will post as I go along yeah. I am assuming that we are still going with the original colour schemes in the comps yeah?

Cityscapes ground zero

These few sketches were my very first starting points before I even went into the composites I did, I still like them and probably will go with the feel. I thumb them on the fly, still trying to get a grasps on the details on how the final city will look. Have a look yeah and let me know.

This was the very first over view of the city scape and pretty much led to the colour studies I comped. I remember that Req said it was too flat but I threw it in, just incase it might spark something off.

This is the very first sketch I did after our initial talks, I still like the feel of this but I am not sure if it's a little too OTT. I like the idea of the streets being extremely decorative and completely rendered for pedestrains rather than vehicles ( this was something Req wanted right from the start), went for almost a park like pathway.

The following ones came after many moons... Added more sturctural details

I arrived at these after the comps I did coz we need some kind architectural details to anchor the design of the city. All four of them have very different detailing. I thought I throw them in for your ref.

Top left:
Was very much playing with the whole Mondrian structure, dun ask me why Mondrian, somehow it just popped into my head.

Top right:
I like the idea of a huge feature in the middle of the city.... almost like a converging point to ground the entire design together... and yes, it's inspired by Tokyo Tower =P

Bottom left:
Started playing with levels with the city, I really like the whole idea of a mass of walkways running through the city on different levels. Almost like one of those hamster cage thingees that are interconnected.

Bottom right:
Okay I had gone abit fantasy on this take, but the image of steel arches and glass roofs just seem to run hand in hand with the idea of a Utopian city, and I think the idea of a broken glass city seems to resonate with the feel of the song. I am not sure if the arches are alittle too ang moh or not or too cathedral like...

These ones are more studies of the different structures within the city, I really like the idea of levels within the city, given the fact the kids travel across the city to get to the flower in the end. It seems to allow more visual elements to play into the frame. The image of going through the heart of destruction seems to greatly emphasize the simplicity of the birth of life at the end.

This one is a exploration after having played with the different elements in the previous thumbnails, this resulted when i tried put the different elements together into 1 frame to see how it works...

This is the kind of elements I thought would give the design of the city more texture and grit when we eventually go for the closer shots. Signboards and graffiti and the like but i am not sure the script is a little too foreign though...

Anyhoo let me know if you guys like where I am taking it...

Kisa & Koji

Right, these 2 are the roughs I have in terms of look and styling for the boy and girl, I named them Koji & Kisa... =P Names give me a handle on the characters... So have a look yeah,

K2> I drew them very much after I've seen your takes on them, I kept the silhouette quite simple, let me know how you feel about them yeah, I think we can merge both our looks together, what do you think?

Haunt

Okay guys, I probably deserve to be shot for bailing out on this project for so long... Excuses just sound horribly patronising, so I'll just post up whatever I have so far yeah in the next few posts. =P

UP UP AND AWAY

Oh come on! Cheer up! LOL. I did previously mention about a new graphics card didn't I? I'm starting to see colors, and that's already a pretty big step. Don't fret, we'll soldier on like we always had. And take the trip like a giant R&R, paid for, and totally easy. Cheer up, the date's drawing near~ =)

I'm screaming inside....

Hang On

::-------------------------------------------------------::

::-------------------------------------------------------::

Ok, I know is a long over due post. I've been working on the developments whenever time I can squeeze in camp, and have a sketch book for this project. I'm working on the animatics, slowly, cauz I only have access to a system on the weekends. Boss take a look at the stuff first before considering pulling the plug? Nonetheless your final decision will be respected. =)

Best Regards

FiNAL TiMELiNE

Well boys and girls, seem like we can't really pull this off. If anyone's still working, please, let me know. Else, I'm archiving this soon. Was fun when we started, although I know K2 is still somewhere in the midst of digging out his best stuff lol.

But really, I think we give this a push or let it break. Seems like the obligations involved aren't exactly healthy. Thoughts?

Off Topic

ok.. here goes.. clowns and grins, this picture is done for my practice sake. (ya know to show the boss i'm doing work ^.^) Anyway the whole idea triggers out of my fascination in clowns and their endless wide grins.

Another note, i'll be away for national service, yes oh well... But nevertheless i appreciate the company from the usual suspects, all the catching ups, the talking cock and of course kopitiam and not forgetting the teh and kopi. =) yap, a heartfelt thanks for your company guys, it kept my sanity going+D . Alright, its just 3 months, 3 months, i'll be good. till then...my botak head.

TO THE SERViCE

Okay. How terrible. This is like so gonna be heart-breaking with K2 heading off to the service while the rest of us await his return like... in the next millenium?!

But no fears, K2! we'll try to leave all the necessary stuff for you till you come back, while we continue to relax and chill in our comfy corners!

Here's the latest: Nightsound's playing a one-night-only show in october, and conceptual art pieces for this MV will be shown. Kinda like bonus treats for whoever shows up at the performance. Details will be announced on nightalive, so keep watching the site.

Meantime, enjoy the music video of another single, "Hold My Hands", from the album "Circus In Motion".

Flower Part 3

Okay guys.. these are just some rough sketches of the sillouhette of the hero flower... am still grappling with how it should really look....

Flowers Part 2

Okay here's the next batch... I dunno about alien looking roots but these ones has a slightly more out of the world feel to it yeah.... Absolutely have no idea what their meanings but thought they look nice yeah... The colours are a little too vibrant but i reckon we'll be adapting the look rather than a literal cut and paste... i thought rather than roots, the numerous petals and stamens would work better....

I have no idea what these 2 are but thought they had an interesting shape to them....

This is a Crateva religiosa aka sacred garlic pear (O_o) aka temple plant... I like this one the best i think the hint of colour near the stigma and ovary is subtle enough and the numerous stamens are rather cool yeah... I am just thinking a cross between this and the snowdrop...

Flowers Part 1

Okay boys, look at the pretty flowers! ;P They are possible refs for the hero flower.... I have also listed the meanings as well...

Almond Blossom: Hope, watchfulness and promise
I think this is alrite... Like the colours and shape but mite be a bit pale yeah? we could always change the colour....

Anemone_Hepatica: Forsaken, fading youth, death and suffering

Hmmm, meaning's a bit bleak but i like the look of it

Poppy Anemone: same as above

Just a variation i thought i throw in.. though i think it has too much innuendos of cocaine and opium.....

Anemone_Ranunculoides: same as above

Another variation of anemone

Aster Daisy: Innocence; loyal love; purity; faith; cheer; simplicity

I like the look of it n the colour... i think it's one of the possible options

Daisy: Innocence; loyal love; purity; faith; cheer; simplicity

Variation of above

Orange Blossom: Wisdom; purity; eternal love; your purity equals your loveliness

I like the colours alot.. though the orange would work very well with the blue palette

Snowdrop: Consolation or hope
By far this is my favourite interms of look wise but colour should be more vibrant...

Lemme knoe what you guys think yeah...

Emotion in motion

Things are set in motion in which they cannot be undone. Once again, it is my honour to serve with you guys again. Animation is something drastically alien to me, but I hope to contribute my part to this multi-kopi-prata-newton production. Really glad that things are in motion and the title cards as well as the conceptual pre-visualisation really blew me away. Looking forward to the final product. I'm sure we will all gain some very important experiences and learn some really cool stuff on this project. Cheers!

Yours,
Kenny

P/S: Pls don't ask me to draw... =p

Title Card...

Okay, I know the titles are the least of my concerns... but it just irks me to to see the colour palette so outta place with the rest of the sketches... So here's the new one yeah.... Might need a little more magenta yeah? Wadaya guys think?

Just for the fun of it yeah

Thought I upload the sketches... Oh yeah does anyone have corel painter?
I think might be quite useful to actually pick that up...

Oy KENNNYYYY.... we have all said something.... its your turn ;P

BEAUTIFY

Okay. Not exactly everybody's cup of tea, especially the art director... BUT I've added a neat counter for the fun of it. We're probably gonna hit the pages by ourselves most of the time anyway, so let's just see how faithful we are!

Anyway, nuff said about all that despair in throwing ourselves into the volcano. Not like I'm having it easy! Pressure k! Imagine doing up the mood board and trying to make it look at least decent to present to K2 and Sab. Maybe we should get Kenny to do it after all.

Aren't we having fun here eh?

'U' + '_' =?

Hmmmmmm... anybody knows the equation of ( 'U' + '_' =? ) It is 'U' to work on this upcoming animation, definitely another fulfilling experience ahead, especially watching the test clip. Very much looking forward into completing this project. On the other hand '_' (that is anyone can find me a more sian expression), will be going 'overseas' soon. On a lighter note; check out this site http://www.conceptart.org great stuff there for aspiring artist. =)

Till Then
K2

I must be mad...

All things considered, I must have been mad to take this up... but nontheless... I think all of us are striving to make it the best that we could. You know... I have to say after the watching the test assembly by REQ... It's rather encouraging yeah, to see the pictures moving... Kinda anyway.... though it is going to be a long arduous journey ahead and not to mention, the ridiculous amount of hair tearing moments that I think K2 and I are going to encounter...

IT STARTS FROM HERE

Sure was exciting to finally get the ball rolling with test footages and a rundown to the exact color palettes, directions and everything else edgy to set the pace. Started this blog to keep ourselves all posted on what happens, and perhaps document the entire process of making the animation.

To start off, the blog's header is the first artwork to be posted as a preview! Sabrina's got a real thing going there with the colors and fonts, and certainly edging it to what would be the most regrettable project we have all committed ourselves in ha!

Nonetheless, more posts this point forth!
